Python notebooks for a kid who loves football
I told my 10-year-old son about the NFL Big Data Bowl on Kaggle. He knows every team, every player, and checks stats all day, so he was interested right away.
The competition itself is for grown-up analysts. So I made a simpler version for kids: small Python notebooks on open NFL data, about the players he already knows.
In the first one he checks if the fastest players at the Combine become the best receivers. In the second he plays stat detective: best games, best seasons, a mystery player.
He learns Python and how to look at data, and it’s fun because it’s about his favorite players.
I put the notebooks on GitHub for anyone whose kids are into sports too. They open in Google Colab, nothing to install: github.com/o-ostrovskiy/sport-python-learning
These are the first two. Next come more NFL challenges, and after that other sports. You’re welcome to contribute with ideas or new labs.
